Azolla Seedling Medium for Organic Farming
Seedling medium from azolla is an innovation for reducing farming costs. To create the seedling medium, azolla, which is rich in nitrogen, is mixed with coco peat. For plants that require a high amount of nutrients, worm castings can also be added to the seedling medium. The medium can be used to effectively raise vegetable and fruit crop seedlings for 21-30 days before transplanting them into plots. The result of our study indicates that the average cost of the innovation is under 2 baht per seed tray, which is significantly lower than other seedling media. The innovation allows farmers to produce the seedling medium by themselves, reducing their dependence on external products. Moreover, it promotes good agricultural practices, effective use of local resources, and sustainable agriculture.
