Saltwater Red Tilapia Farming

Red tilapia is an economically viable, largely cultivated, and high-demand freshwater fish. Since red tilapia fish grow rapidly, their taste meets the needs of the consumers. In response, the Samutsongkhram Fisheries Research Station initiated a progressive approach to develop and promote the utilization of abandoned fish and shrimp ponds in Samutsongkhram, an area with brackish and seawater. Hence, the red tilapia fish are cultivated in seawater for research. The red tilapia fish in the farm have salinity tolerance of 5-30 ppt as they underwent cultivation, acclimatization, environmental adjustment, as well as exposure to antibiotics and bacteria.
