Automatically Elevated Shanks with Leaf Spring for Subsoiler
Subsoiling is an essential agricultural practice for solving soil compaction problems and supporting the growth of plant roots. However, in some areas where the hardpan layer contains underground obstacles such as rocks and wood debris, subsoiling often causes frequent breakage of the shear bolts due to excessive resistance forces that exceed the equipment’s tolerance. This leads to work delays and increased maintenance costs. To address this issue, the Faculty of Engineering at Kamphaeng Saen, Kasetsart University, has developed a spring-loaded subsoiler shank that can lift when encountering underground obstacles. The mechanism utilizes appropriately sized automotive leaf springs, allowing the shank to retract and pass over obstacles. This innovation helps alleviate soil compaction efficiently, reduces working time, and lowers maintenance costs. It is particularly suitable for areas with numerous underground obstructions and provides an effective solution to support farmers in improving soil management.
