Cassava Rhizome-Biochar-Soil-Amendment

Cassava is the fourth largest crop in terms of planting area (9.3 million rai), after rice, rubber and sugarcane. Cassava tuber (storage root) can be used not only as main products for human food and animal feeding, but every part is useful like stem for propagation (stalk for planting), their leaves can produce human food and animal feed, and younger stem or branches can also be animal feeding. In addition, the remaining stems from use as planting, especially rhizomes can be used as soil amendment biochar that helps increase the amount of carbon in the soil, improves the chemical and physical properties of the soil. Therefore, it is a sustainable soil management. For details, please inquire Dr. Punyada Chaisrisuriyos, Lop-Buri Research Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University. Tel. 06-1418-9557.
