10 Varieties of Hybrid Sour Giant Tamarinds

Sour tamarinds are fruit trees which widely plant all over Thailand and can be processed into various products. Mr. Ruangsak Komkhuntod, a professional agriculturist at Pak-Chong Research Center, Kasetsart University, had developed sour giant tamarind into 10 varieties. They are hybrid varieties bred from their original sour tamarind varieties: Pak-Chong 1, Dok King Hak, Straight-pod Ratchaburi, and Sa Kaeo. All are bred by diallel cross breeding method with reciprocal method. Then, they are planted and selected the elite varieties follow the defined standard to get heavy tamarind fruits with round-long bulges, firm flesh, and thick skin. The flesh is red-brown which can be processed into various products. The biggest bulge weighs 100 grams or 10 bulges are equal to 1 Kilogram.
