Cannabis, a new economic crop in a plant factory with artificial light

A plant factory with artificial light refers to cannabis cultivation in a closed system. The research is produced by Assoc. Prof. Dr Tanee Sreewongchai with the research team from the Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University. They have brought cannabis, a commercial plant, to develop a model for cannabis cultivation in a closed system. The research on the extraction of essential substances increases the potential for medical use. In the first round, CBD Charlotte’s Angel cannabis seeds were planted then the subsequent round was cuttings. There are procedures for maintaining and controlling quality and standards in the production process. Cannabis cultivation in a closed system can be grown up to 4 cycles per year, with consistent yield and quality across all production cycles. The yields of inflorescences correspond to the characteristics of the species. Those are free from heavy metal, pesticides, and mycotoxins contamination. This research includes the development of extraction of essential substances by cool ethanol method to obtain medical grade CBD oil from inflorescences. It is suitable as a raw material for further medical or other uses. For inquiries, contact the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University. Tel. 0-2579-0588
