International Degree Programs in Fisheries

General Information
               Kasetsart University, established in 1943, is a public university locating in Jatujak
District, Bangkok, Thailand. Presently, there are 13 faculties with the Faculty of Fisheries being a
leader in its filed. The Faculty of Fisheries offers the Bachelors’ Degree of Science in Fisheries,
majoring in, Aquaculture, Fishery Management, Fishery Science, Fishery Products and Marine
Science.

                  International Graduate Program, the Faculty of Fisheries offers five International Master
Programs. The academic staffs served for the international programs comprise of 23 doctorate
and 37 master degree holders.

                 There are more than 1,500 graduates from this faculty and among these graduates are
many well-known scientists nationally and internationally. Many of them have been associated
with the development of fisheries science, aquaculture and post harvest activities in Thailand
and in many other countries.

Natural of Programs

                 All degrees offer a thesis program. Requirement for course and thesis credit hours varies
depending on the degree. Classes are in English. Study period is approximately two-years
(4 semesters). The first semester of school actually starts in the first week of June and the second
one starts in the last week of October.

Master of Science (Aquaculture)

             The program covers the fields of hatchery and culturing techniques for aquatic organisms;
pond and hatchery design; water quality management for aquaculture; health management; nutrition
and feed technology; genetics and genetic improvement.
            Minimum of 24 credits of course work and 12 credits of thesis are required

Master of Science (Fishery Management)

             The program covers the disciplines of administration and management of fishery resources
and aquatic bioresources, fishery socioeconomic, marketing, fishery organization, fishery policy,
and fishery laws and regulations.
              Minimum of 26 credits of course work and 12 credits of thesis are required


Master of Science (Fishery Science)

            The program covers the field of aquatic ecology and environment, aquatic toxicology, t
axonomy, population dynamics, diseases and parasites, biology, anatomy, and physiology
of aquatic organisms.
            Minimum of 24 credits of course work and 12 credits of thesis are required

Master of Science (Fishery Product)

           The program covers the disciplines of post–harvest, preservation, and processing t
echnologies, waste and by–product utilization, and quality control for fishery products and
other products from aquatic organism.
           Minimum of 33 credits of course work and 12 credits of thesis are required.

Master of Science (Marine Science)

          
The program covers the fields of physical and chemical oceanography, marine biology,
marine geology, marine ecology, marine environment, marine biotechnology, meteorology,
fishing technology, coastal navigation, and marine policy.
           Minimum of 36 credits of course work and 12 credits of thesis are required.

Facilities

            Most of the main facilities and buildings are in Bangkok. These include laboratories in
specialized fields such as water quality, fish genetics, fish taxonomy, fish processing, fish nutrition,
marine biodiversity and marine biotechnology. The faculty also has its own computer facility and
library, which has the most collections in the field of fishery science.
            Facilities for field experiment are available on main campus in Bangkok as well as in the
faculty research stations; one freshwater and three brackishwater. The Kasetsart University also
provides a research station to support the studies on coastal resource management and related
fields.

Tuition and Fees

           Tuition and fees for a program ranges from US$ 5,780.00 to 6,680.00 depending upon
nature of the program. The cost already includes health insurance.
         A suggestion for basic expenses for each program are: Book allowance US$ 1,000.00;
Thesis preparation US$ 500.00; Personal expenses US$ 450.00/month.
