An innovative
material can emerge from the local characteristics that are found within
the specific place and time. This workshop aims to show the potential
of waste materials and to re-use the waste by developing new composite
materials. This study of alternative building materials at Kasetsart University
has been a result of a unique collaboration between the Faculties of Architecture,
Forestry and Engineering.
The project not only focuses on the technological optimization of re-using rice straw and other agricultural wastes. It is also important to apply techniques from traditional and vernacular practices as well as demonstrating creative and aesthetic opportunities for architects and designers in re-using waste materials.
